POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Home Health is an executive/administrator with 24-hour responsibility for the organization, direction, supervision, efficiency, productivity and quality.

Director is responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling the business and clinical activities of a Certified health agency.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Degree in Nursing, (Masters Preferred) and/or Business, Public Health or related field. Bachelor’s degree and experience may substitute for graduate degree.

LICENSE / CERTIFICATION / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Must have valid and active State RN license, if position is filled by a Registered Nurse. A valid Drivers license.

CONTINUING EDUCATION & COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Continuing education and/or licensing requirements: Renewal of RN licensure, if position is filled by an RN. BLS.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five years (minimum) experience as a leader. 8 to 10 years diverse experience in home care, including Hospice, home infusion,hourly in-home care and independent home health preferred.

Strong familiarity/knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding home health care and reimbursement.

An established record as a strong team player, able to work closely with an established team of professionals.

An ability to quickly establish rapport, gain respect and to lead is essential.

Executive presence and management skills necessary to provide leadership, achieve desired goals and interact effectively with the physician groups, health care operations team members, business and community leaders, and representatives of local, state and national bodies.

Effective interpersonal, decision-making and written and verbal communication skills.

Assertiveness in the presentation and selling of ideas, balanced by sensitivity to the views of various interest groups.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Maintains current knowledge about the home health field, develops and recommends long range plans, objectives and strategies; maintains communications with and informs appropriate persons of current trends, issues and problems affecting home services.

Develops, coordinates and manages strategic plans, including the home health’s operating budget, long range and business plans. Ensures home health services are provided in a cost

effective manner and within budget. Establishes and maintains efficient systems, organizing the agency so that there is a clear delineation of authority, functional responsibility, relationships and lines of communications.

Plans and conducts conferences and discussions with home health staff to accurately interpret policies and procedures, solve problems, and discuss therapeutic home care for individual patients.

Works closely with the accounting department to develop and administer home health billing policies and procedures.

Develops and coordinates quality management programs, assuring quality service to all home health patients, and compliance with all accreditation and legal requirements.

Establishes criteria to measure the achievement of short and long range goals and objectives of home health services. Closely monitors results and revises strategies and objectives, as required.

Develops and manages daily operations and administrative functions for Home Health, consistent with goals, strategies and policies.

Ensures the development of home health policies and procedures, which focus on providing quality, team-oriented care of patients, and helps to attract and retain qualified home health personnel.

Ensures that qualified home health personnel are hired. Ensures staff members meet home health care standards by using management tools, which include coaching, counseling, educating, evaluating and terminating home health employees. Develops at least one subordinate to be able to ultimately be promoted into Director’s position.
