Staff Accountant

LOCATION: Alvin, Texas
SUMMARY:Reporting to the VP Sales & Marketing, the Business Administrator is responsible for various month-end activities and assists with accounting analysis, accruals and reconciliation. This position will be involved with or responsible for billing, receivables, payables, monthly journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations as well as working with the accounting team on the monthly close process.
DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for reviewing AP invoices for proper approvals, coding accuracy, and identifying those that are subject to use tax
- Maintains project files, tracking and reporting
- Maintains purchase and sales order files for accuracy against expenses, tracking and reporting
- Converts completed sales orders to invoice and send to customer
- Reconcile various balance sheet accounts monthly
- Prepares various monthly journal entries related to pre-paid, accruals, depreciation and amortization and freight maintains supporting documentation for these entries
- Reviews open PO’s with various requestors/department leaders and prepares accruals for expenses accordingly, for the controller to review
- Responsible for ensuring accounting transaction follow GAAP and corporate policies
- Prepares sales/use tax schedules, reports and other documents and files in a timely manner
- Prepare schedules for year-end audit and tax return and respond to audit-related inquiries
- Perform other duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, preferred
- 2-5 years of related accounting experience required
- 2+ years in a manufacturing environment desired with packaged or manufactured equipment preferred
- Strong technical accounting and analytical skills
- Must be detail oriented, highly organized and possess the ability to multi-task
- Ability to prioritize and work proactively and independently to manage priorities and meet deadlines
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook required
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, great plains, sales pad, trend docs are preferred
